It was 1969, and Austin was using his powers to spread Mini mania the world over, but there were eyes watching. It was decided that I, Mini Me, was to meet with Austin and trick him to sign over manufacturing rights of Minis the world over, and get them all to serve as official Dr. Evil getaway cars. So I was transported in the time machine from the Underground Lair down to a London parking lot, and emerged excitedly as I'm known and prone to, "I'm Mini Me!""No!", the famous spy car argued, "Mini me!""Okay, Mini you.""No, Mini you!""Ha, I told you, Mini Me!", I exclaimed with satisfaction, having established authority with all the slyness befitting the super mini-villain that I was. Or so I thought.

Photoblog: Gedee Car Museum - Sweet Dreams Are Made Of Wheels
Whenever I'm bored with the trappings of modern day monotony, I head out to visit the wizened old man on top of the hill. We've been friends a long time now, but he never tells me his name or how many decades he's seen go by. He's always keen to help me in exchange for a flask of ginger tea though, and while I've been sworn to secrecy, I'll just let you in on his special trunk, which, when unlocked, initiates contact with A. Lianne, one of those peeps you see hovering in the night sky.
I was a lucky soul picked as being worthy of experimentation with time travel and teleportation to help get the word out that they're around. I'm not complaining though, they've sent me to several interesting places, including races and drives around the world I wouldn't have a hope of being invited to by those in power, er, relations, like Hillclimb St. Ursanne Les Rangiers I took part in last year. This time though, things were to be a little different...
Afterword
My uncle Sunil is one of those rare souls with a quiet, yet deep passion for the automotive world. So it was only fitting he introduced us to this basement gem on Coimbatore's most well-known road, because the classy GD Naidu Car Museum is a must-visit for anyone driven by internal combustion, given the quality, choice, and attention to detail, of both exhibit and exhibition. One can see the effort put into the small but important things, like relevant descriptions, photo friendly lighting, and non-overcrowding of the cars, for the most part at least. I was able to visit only briefly, but hope this little taste of the museum will persuade you to brave downtown traffic and check it out for yourself. Because it's always the right place when auto is motto.

The old man fiddled with the trunk, and before I knew it, I was travelling through space and time... |
...I found myself dissolving into the air, and ended back up on the hill. I pinched myself just to be sure, but there was no old man, no trunk, and no ginger tea. |

Illustrated Story: Climb Every Mountain. Quick.
Any hillclimb event is close to my heart, and I often ponder about whether I'll ever get the chance to take part in one. Pretty sure I'd do decent as a newcomer because of knowing when to shut up and racking up more than a decade's driving experience in varied road conditions on the technically challenging mountain roads around my hometown, Kodaikanal, in South India. Actually came achingly close to participating in one, but the event got cancelled on raceday because of disgraceful organisation and rowdy spectators. My biggest dream is becoming a pro driver, and I'm not talking golf. VW Golf, genius. Oh. Puleeeze! While I for certain share that with so many men and women across this planet, there sure as hell ain't no law against trying to envision the dream. This is my concept illustration, a Maruti Suzuki 800, a ride pretty much every person in this country knows personally, but post Santosh Rajkumar Works. It gets uprated brakes, suspension, wheels, and a retro wing in front for inter and cool. The 796cc, three-cylinder engine now generates around 90 bhp with the 'bo up from the standard 38, with weight dropped to 600 kilos. I know, it's about power-to-weight and power to wait. Till then I picture me rollin' in my 800 Suzuki...

Illustration: Oh, You Drive A Minivan.
My newest project is a high performance MPV concept, a pencil and ink illustration on paper. This people mover will move, and feature power in the range of 280-300 horses, with a top speed restricted to 250 km/h. The hypervan gets 19-inch wheels with super low profile performance rubber, and makes for a track day weapon that the Missus and the brats can attend with you, if you so intend. But nah, extra weight...

Scale Tale: Pure Porsche
You know something's very, very right when your emotions are stirred at the very mention of a company. Porsche is that to me. After three decades of watching the world's best sports car company evolve so successfully (Le Mans 2015 and 2016 notwithstanding), yet remain so true to its rich heritage, I thought it was finally time to tap into the savings and pick me aPorsche 911. Because everyone should own one at least once in their lives.
This wasn't my first though. The love affair goes back to when I was maybe seven or eight - a cherry red Targa. She was quick, and would spin the rears with the slightest dab of the throttle. Only if the batteries were new and you ran behind with the cabled remote control though... But I could recognise its timeless profile even earlier, from Porsche literature that my father, a mechanical engineer (and 928 die-harder), had brought back from a business trip to Germany in the early-80s.
The 2010 997 GT3 RS was the model I homed in on, because of that manual box connecting me to its 444 manic ponies, and the stripped out, focused interior. The stunning orange and black hue brew did no harm to the decision either. But the biggest reason for the choice was the sticker of 200 bucks that didn't break the bank, just the piggy..

My illustration of the 2009 +Jeep Wrangler Unlimited [prints available]. Looking at getting in touch with +Jeep India, as there's plenty more where this came from, and I've got plenty ideas for the company's run in the country.

Illustration: Royal Enfield Classic 500 IAF Edition
I've been wanting to try my hand at customising motorcycles in addition to cars, but simply didn't have the guts. Anyway, I tried to get over that and combined Indian Air Force themes with the evergreen Royal Enfield Classic 500 stock motorcycle, and this is what emerged - the Royal Enfield Classic 500 IAF Edition. What do you think?

Illustration: Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
My Pontiac Firebird Trans Am illustration, harking back to the glory days of Smokey and the Bandit and Knight Rider. I've once had the good fortune to fire up an old Camaro during my days in Australia, the car it shared a platform with back in the day, and its 'V8 modor' literally shook the earth... Illustration: '56 Jawa
This beautiful motorcycle has become a collector's item in India and across the world, and never fails to garner smiles and evoke emotions. The iconic beat from the twin pipes means you can recognise the sound a Jawa from far away, and I love the way the shifter doubles up as the kickstarter. Illustration:'54 Morris Oxford
This car holds a lot of fond memories for us in India, and was driven by millions who used it for everything from the school run to ferrying Parliament biggies. Here's my artistic impression of the classic Morris Oxford from 1954. If you're interested in auto art, or want to commission an illustration of your car, you can email me at santoshrajkumar@gmail.com.
